This post is going to seem pretty ridiculous to some because my income is so low, but you know what? I don’t care because I’m FINALLY MAKING MONEY! You gotta start somewhere right?!
I promised myself when I started this blog last September that if I ever made money off of it, I would post monthly income reports to show my growth (or lack there of) for others looking to start their own blog/business. I follow other bloggers who post their monthly incomes and it’s been such a HUGE help to me. Being able to read about other peoples experience with how they acquire income, resources to use, and what NOT to do is the only reason I have made improvements since I started.
It took me approximately 7 months to start making ANY money at all, and I have no idea where it will go from here, but I do know that I plan on working my butt off to increase this number each month and I’m excited to see what the future holds!
My overall income for the month of April: $60.62
Let me explain where this money is coming from for those who don’t know about how this all works. Basically you can make money blogging from a variety of different sources.
1. Advertising– once you generate enough traffic, you can sign up with an ad company which will post advertisements on your website related to the content you produce. Every time someone views your site and those ads, you make money. I signed up with Google Ad Sense a week and a half ago. After 11 days, I have made a whopping .67 cents! Woohoo! It’s very small, but it’s better than nothing! I waited to sign up for ads until I knew I had enough people reading and enough content that I thought it made sense. Now does potentially $2 per month make sense to keep them? I’m not sure, but my plan is to make some big moves from here on out with my health coaching, so I just wanted to have the ads set up already in case my increase in coaching clients helps generate more views to my site in the near future. There are plenty of other ad companies out there, and lots of opinions on which ones to use. I just picked Google because it seemed like a good one to start with. No idea how it compares to others, but if I switch in the future I will keep you posted. The only down side is that I have no control over where they put the ads, and they seem to be EVERYWHERE on my site. It’s a bit annoying and takes some getting used to, but hopefully it’s not detracting anyone from reading my content. If it is, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
2. Affiliates– Affiliates are another way you can make money as a blogger/social media influencer. Basically you partner with a company and they set up a code or website link under your name. You then advertise their products, and every time you refer a client to them or someone buys a product using your code or affiliate link, you make money. After I became a Whole30 coach 2 weeks ago, I was able to begin working with a variety of awesome companies that partner with Whole30. These are all companies that I buy products from on a regular basis anyways, so I am very excited to be able to work with them and help promote their products on my website and Instagram. So far, I have partnered with Thrive Market and Chomps. Thrive is my absolute favorite online shopping website. They have so many discounted Whole30/Paleo/Keto options that I do not have access to in my small town, so it’s so nice to be able to order all my staples, have free shipping, and my food arrives within just days! Chomps is my favorite Whole30 approved meat stick. It’s a perfect on the go snack option for me that does not spike my blood sugar or awaken my sugar dragon. It’s packed with protein, fat, and awesome flavor. I’ll include my affiliate links to them at the bottom of this post if you are looking to try either of them!
When I became a Thrive affiliate this week, they very kindly refunded my yearly membership of $59.95. This is a membership I have paid for for years and would have had anyways, so in my eyes, this is extra income that I earned. That refund plus my .67 cents from ads brings my total to $60.62.
3. Products and Services– The other way to make money blogging is to provide products and services to your readers! I will be providing my health coaching services each month, and now that I am done with both my ACE certification and Whole30, I plan on actively taking clients starting in June. This will be where the bulk of my future income will hopefully come from, but I also plan on writing an e-book and some helpful online resources that will be available for purchase through my site. My hope is that by increasing my clientele, I will then increase my blog traffic, which will then increase my ad and affiliate income.
This is all very new as I have only had all of this set up for a little less than 2 weeks. I want to be very open about my progress though, so I figured that starting from the very beginning would be the most helpful to people! My main goal and dream with this blog and coaching business is that one day I will make enough money to pay my mortgage payment without using income from my full time job. I realize I am a long ways away from that, but I hope you will follow me on this journey and I am excited to see what the future holds!
